DITCH THE RED BUCKET

A TALE OF TWO METHODS

While it is long considered the industry standard, there are limitations to the traditional red bucket and reusable cloth method that aren’t necessarily visible to the naked eye. In the labs at GOJO Industries, Inc., we conducted a series of demos to visualize these limitations and show the benefits of using disposable sanitizing wipes.

It may be time to embrace a simpler process to clean and sanitize surfaces that helps to minimize risks, save time, and leave a better impression with your customers.

A STICKY SITUATION

The Unintended Consequences of the Red Bucket & Reusable Cloth Method

We spilled a milkshake on a countertop surface, the kind of occurrence that is not uncommon at any foodservice establishment, leaving a messy area behind. Using the classic red bucket and reusable cloth method, we cleaned up the spill and then dipped the cloth into the same bucket to wipe down another surface. All appeared clean.

What wasn’t immediately apparent was that the contaminated sanitizing solution in the bucket had spread the food soil to the next surface. In addition, as previous studies have shown, this could have transferred potentially harmful germs.1

Visual Evidence of Food Soils Left Behind

Bucket and Reusable Cloth

UV light shows the reality of what can happen using the red bucket and reusable cloth method. The images reveal the streaky milkshake residue left behind on surfaces that were supposed to be clean, indicating that this common approach to turning tables may not be as effective as foodservice operators think.

A SIMPLER WAY TO WIPE MESSES AWAY

The Effectiveness of PURELL® Foodservice Sanitizing Wipes

We then cleaned the leftover food soils, this time using PURELL Foodservice Sanitizing Wipes. These single-use wipes effectively removed the leftover milkshake residue, providing a more thorough clean while preventing further cross-contamination in the process.

Visual Evidence of Effective Cleaning

Disposable Sanitizing Wipes

UV light highlights the efficiency of PURELL Foodservice Sanitizing Wipes. The images clearly show that surfaces cleaned with these wipes have no streaky milkshake residue, demonstrating their effectiveness in maintaining a clean foodservice environment. When compared to what was left behind by the reusable cloth, the difference is striking.

THE DIFFERENCE IS CLEAR

The milkshake demo provides compelling visual evidence that it's time to ditch the red bucket and reusable cloth method in favor of PURELL® Foodservice Sanitizing Wipes. Transform your foodservice establishment with a more effective, efficient, and customer-friendly sanitizing process that delivers the results you and your customers deserve.
